Firemen came to the rescue of a schoolboy who endured excruciating pain for several hours after the nine-year-old wore a metal ring-shaped object around his index finger.

Idris Muhd Firdaus was believed to have found the three-layered object at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Pegoh compound in Pasir Putih.

Pasir Putih Fire and Rescue Department chief, Ismail Darus said the pupil came to the fire station with his mother for help after they failed to remove the ring at a clinic.

"The boy came by the fire station at 2.45pm and it took us 10 minutes to remove the object with a small cutter.

"The boy said he was fascinated by the object as it could spin and wore it round his finger but it could not be dislodged," he told Bernama here, on Monday.
