A fisherman was found dead with injuries to the face and head at a road-shoulder in Sandakan early Sunday.
Passers-by stumbled on the body of the 20-year-old in Jalan Old Slip Way at 4.45am, and alerted the police.
Sandakan police chief ACP Zabidi Mohd Zain said the man's identity was withheld to facilitate investigations into the murder.
He said the victim was having a meal with two friends at a road-shoulder when a man suddenly appeared and attacked him repeatedly before fleeing from the scene.
