Five die, one injured in Kota Tinggi road accident

Five people were killed and one person was injured in a road accident involving two cars at Km61.2 of Jalan Johor Baharu-Mersing here last night, police said today.

Kota Tinggi Police deputy chief DSP Low Hang Seng said the driver and a passenger of a Perodua Kenari car, identified as Rosmah Muda, 28, and her younger sister Fatimah, 24, respectively, were two of the people killed.

The three others killed were the driver and two passengers of a Proton Wira, namely Mohamad Shafie Pecek, 21, Mohamad Fayad Abdul Rahman, 21, and Mohd Nizam Hassan, 29, respectively, he said. Another younger sister of Rosmah, Nur Shafiqah, 14, was badly injured and had been admitted to the Kota Tinggi Hospital, he said when contacted.

Low said the head-on collision occurred at 10.40 pm, and added that Rosmah was driving from Mersing to Kota Tinggi and Mohamad Shafie, in the other direction.

Rosmah and her sisters, who were from Jalan Haji Arifin, Endau, near Mersing, had been on their way to Felda Air Tawar 3 to help with the bridal make-up service for a wedding.

Mohamad Shafie and his friends had been returning to Felda Tenggaroh here after having dinner in Kota Tinggi.

Low said Rosmah, Fatimah and Mohamad Fayad were killed on the spot while Mohamad Shafie and Mohd Nizam died at the Kota Tinggi Hospital.
