The government will introduce five modules and three sub-modules in the National Service Training Programme 2.0 (PLKN 2.0) transformation in an effort to inject new impetus to the programme.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said these modules were selected to ensure that PLKN transformation would be relevant to current demands, practical and would give added value in creating significant impact to national development, particularly after 10 years in existence.
The five main modules to be introduced are Fit4Life, Tech and Talk, Malaysiaku, Be Safe, Be Alert and I-Upgrade while the three sub-modules are Spirituality, My Future and Community Service.
"In the one-year laboratory period, we consulted stakeholders, met and discussed with experts, which have brought about results that I hope will be accepted to the public to enhance the programme which has been running for the past 10 years," he told reporters after a sacrificial ceremony for Sembrong parliamentary constituency at Taman Desa Sejahtera here Saturday.
Hishammuddin, who is also the Sembrong Member of Parliament, cited Fit4Life module as an example which could train PLKN participants survival skills, extreme and healthy activities to build courage and instill discipline.
The Tech & Talk module would focus on interpersonal skills as well as creative and critical thinking while the MalaysiaKu and Be Safe, Be Alert modules would give emphasis on patriotism and understanding of current challenges and threats.
The national service programme which would commence next year is encouraging participation on a voluntary basis, Hishammuddin added.
