Flash floods: City Hall ready to cooperate with MACC

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is prepared to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on the allegation that there exist elements of corruption in the development of projects in the city to the extent of causing flash floods.
DBKL Planning Department executive director Datuk Mohd Najib Mohd said it was not a problem for DBKL to cooperate with the authorities to conduct investigations on the allegation.
"We will also run a check on our side (DBKL), but I am not so sure of the outcome as the matter involved many parties and contractors, including from the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS)," he told reporters after presenting prizes to winners of KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge 2016 here today.
He said this in response to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's remarks that the government would investigate elements of corruption in development projects in the federal capital following the recent flash floods.
Meanwhile, Mohd Najib said so far, DBKL was still collecting information on existing infrastructure and efficient measures which could be taken to overcome flash flood issues in the city.
"For short-term measures, we will be improving communication between the operation room and our man on the ground, at least we will be in a state of full preparedness when facing the problem," he said.
Mohd Najib said five locations had been identified as flood hot spots namely around Jalan Duta, Bangsar, Bank Negara, Bukit Tunku and Cheras.
He said DBKL would be handing over reports on the flash floods to Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and discuss the actions needed to be taken to resolve the matter tomorrow.
