The government will investigate possible elements of corruption in development projects in the federal capital, especially those involving mega projects which triggered the recent flash floods.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the authorities responsible would be asked to conduct investigations and provide full reports on the incident to enable follow-up actions to be taken.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Disasters, said parties accusing each other of the problem would be ordered to sit down and find the best solution to tackle the issue.
"The best is to resolve the people's problem in both the short and long term so that it would not recur. There should be no flash floods in Kuala Lumpur as the system and infrastructure for flood management were good.
"Maybe there is a problem with draining water from excessive rain...I will assist the ministries and departments concerned to resolve the problem," he said.
He disclosed this to reporters after launching the 2016 Home Ministry and Deputy Prime Minister's Office Family Day at the General Operations Force Central Brigade headquarters in Cheras, today.
In this regard, Ahmad Zahid who is Home Minister, is leaving it to police to carry out further investigations on local political cartoonist Zulkifli Anwar Ulhaque or Zunar for criticising Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak through his drawings at an exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.
"From the operational aspect, I am leaving it to the police...this is my approach," he said and added that the issue involved the moral and integrity of the individual.
"Criticism is not a problem but to insult is another matter...I accept criticisms especially constructive ones which are healthy but to insult is a different matter.
"I think in this regard, I am seeking Allah to open his (Zunar's) heart so that he quickly repents and uses other approaches to express opposing opinions," he said.
