Flood kills youth, another child missing

The floods in Kemaman has killed a 17-year-old youth who was found drowned in Kampung Padang Kubu, Kijal yesterday.

Kemaman MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said he had been informed that a child was also feared missing following a rip tide in Kijal too.

Based on a report from the Kemaman district Flood Operations Room, more than 1,000 victims from 483 families were now staying at 27 flood evacuation centres in the district, he told reporters here today.

The Communications and Multimedia Minister also said the Information Department had been directed to deploy its personnel to the affected areas to ensure that the victims received the latest information on the flood situation in their respective areas.

He said the National Security Council had made thorough preparation by sending early assistance and supplies to flood-prone areas.

Besides Terengganu, floods had also struck Johor which affected 4,765 victims so far and Pahang with about 5,000 victims.
