Flood in Pahang worsens, number of victims nationwide increases

Pahang saw the biggest rise in number of evacuees due to floods as at noon today, with 6,979 evacuees placed in 96 relief centres across the state, up from 5,912 this morning.
Besides Pahang, the number of flood victims in Perak has also increased, while in Johor, Kelantan and Selangor, there were slight declines.
The number of of victims in Sabah, Sarawak and Negeri Sembilan have not changed much, while in Terengganu, the situation had fully recovered with the only relief centre in Dungun closing at 1pm.
With the latest development, the total number of evacuees housed at 190 relief centres across the country at noon has risen to 16,592, compared to 15,262 last night.
The 96 relief centres housing 6,797 victims in Pahang were opened in nine affected districts, namely Lipis, Kuantan, Rompin, Maran, Jerantut, Pekan, Raub, Temerloh and Bera.
The number of victims in Perak rose to 576 as of noon, compared to 569 people this morning, placed in seven relief centres in the districts of Kinta, Larut Matang, Selama, Manjung and Hilir Perak.
In Johor, the number of evacuees in five districts in the state dropped slightly to 8,120, compared to 8,130 this morning, placed at 71 relief centres.
The number of evacuees in Kelantan declined to 352 as of noon today from 361 in the morning with nine relief centres still open for victims from Gua Musang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah.
The number of flood victims in Selangor placed in three relief centres in Sabak Bernam had also dropped to 362 people, compared to 364 in the morning.
In Sabah, the number of victims placed at relief centres in Pitas District and Paitan sub-district remained at 228 as of 1pm.
In Negeri Sembilan, the number of evacuees remained at 157 people as of noon, with one relief centre left at Dewan Besar Gemas, Tampin.
In Sarawak, 14 primary schools in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri were still closed due to flooding, affecting 1,232 students. -- Bernama
