On Nov 18, the MKN had declared the Stage 1 Disaster in the district when more than 400 victims were evacuated to the flood evacuation centres.
The National Security Council (MKN) has declared the withdrawal of the Stage 1 Disaster in the district of Kuala Selangor which was affected by the flood earlier as the number of victims staying at the relief centres here had declined.
District Officer cum Kuala Selangor Disaster Committee chairman, Shamsul Shahril Badlisza Mohd Noor, said as at 9am today, the number of flood victims still staying at the five relief centres namely SK Marit Mahang, Dewan Kampung Bukit Cherakah, Dewan Kampung Bukit Kuching, Ladang Tuan Mee and Balai Raya Kampung Asahan stood at 148.
Meanwhile, two relief centres namely the Dewan Kampung Bukit Hijau had been closed at 3.30pm yesterday and the Masjid Simpang 3 Jeram at 3pm on Wednesday (Nov 25), he said.
"As the flood situation currently has improved and the number of victims at the relief centres had declined, we have decided to withdraw the Stage 1 Disaster alert under the MKN which was declared on Nov 18," he said at a media conference at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Mahang, here today.
On Nov 18, the MKN had declared the Stage 1 Disaster in the district when more than 400 victims were evacuated to the flood evacuation centres here.
Shamsul Shahril also disclosed that the Flood Operations Control Centre at SK Parit Mahang had been closed and relocated to the Kuala Selangor District Office Operations Room.
He said the move would allow the committee to regularly monitor the flood situation in the district.
"Although the flood operations control centre has been closed, we are still on 24-hour standby. If there is a need, we will re open the evacuation centres.
"For the victims who are still staying at the relief centres, the Welfare department is seeing to their needs; the Selangor Health department is also monitoring the situation around the clock," he said.
Meanwhile, he said that the 11 pumps at Sungai Selangor and Sungai Buloh would remain until the flood has subsided.
The district officer said the committee had also requested from the Selangor state government for permanent pumps for the Parit Gajah and Bukit Kuching floodgates.
"This would allow water pumping works to be carried out as soon as there is continuous heavy downpour," he said.
