TEMERLOH: A security guard, Siti Alama Dollah, did not expect that she would be selected to receive the Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) as she had never filled out any forms since her house was hit by the floods last week.
Siti Alama, 49, who is taking shelter at the relief centre (PPS) in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Tualang here said she was only asked to come to the school's hall today to receive the aid.
"I did ask if there is any form that I need to fill out, but they said that my name was obtained from the list of PPS residents. I am grateful for this assistance because there are still so much to do. I could not save many things because the floods occurred when I was just about to finish the night shift," she told Bernama when met at the PPS.
Siti Alama was among 132 household heads at the PPS who received the BWI aid from Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
Another flood victim, Muhammad Balqis Azizul Rahim, 31, planned to use the RM1,000 assistance to repair the walls and cement floor of his house in Kampung Bangau Parit here.
"I returned home yesterday and saw quite a lot that needed to be replaced. Luckily we got this aid because we had spent money to repair the floor that was damaged during the floods earlier this year. I didn't expect the floods to occur twice this year.
"Alhamdulillah for this quick assistance. So, we can start the repair work as soon as the house is cleaned," said Muhammad Balqis who works as an electrician.
For Abdul Latif Ibrahim, 50, who lives in Kampung Seberang here, he would use the money to buy schools supplies for his two sons who are in secondary school.
The welder said he never expected to receive the BWI as there were many other flood victims who are in dire need of assistance.
"This is the third time our house was hit by the floods since we moved here in 2017. When we heard that Lipis and Raub were flooded, we made some preparations such as moving the car and furniture. However, some items were still submerged in the floodwaters," he said.
Meanwhile, Muziana Abdul Rahman, 37, who lives in Kampung Bangau Parit, said she would use the money to buy important electrical appliances and hoped that the aid could ease the financial burden of her husband, a lorry driver, to repair the damage caused by the floods.
