Their fears of recurring floods came true for residents of several villages on the outskirts of Kuantan when they had to return to the evacuation centre barely 48 hours after the waters subsided on Saturday.
A Bernama survey found that the affected villages - Kampung Pandan, Kampung Chendering and the Pandan Low-Cost Public Housing were the worst hit following the sudden rise in water levels after non-stop heavy rains since the middle of last night.
A victim, Kamariah Jusoh, 65, said she had gone home after she was moved to the relief centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Pandan, near here on Saturday but now had to go back to the centre after her home was once again flooded.
"Before this, I stayed here for two days...I have just returned home and had started cleaning the house when the water suddenly rose again...my house is dirty again," she told reporters here today.
Another victim, Ibrahim Jamal, 60, also had to close his shop again after the water rose suddenly.
As of 4pm, a total of 364 victims from 101 families had been placed at the relief centre.
