Floods in Terengganu deteriorated tonight with 4,813 victims relocated to relief centres compared to only 3,863 people in the evening.
Terengganu National Security Council acting secretary, Roslina Ngah in a statement said as at 9 pm, two more flood evacuation centres were opened, one each in Setiu and Besut raising the total number of relief centres in the state to 38.
"In Setiu, the newly opened evacuation centre at Kampung Jelapang community hall involved 16 victims from five families.
"In Besut, a relief centre was opened at the Kampung Pengkalan Kubur surau to house 43 victims from 14 families," she said.
Meanwhile in Kuala Terengganu, State Health, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Muhamad Pehimi Yusof said a temporary clinic was set up at each flood evacuation centre to facilitate the people in seeking medical assistance and to prevent the spread of flood related diseases such as fever and cholera.
"Each clinic is supported by a team of medical personnel including a doctor or medical officer to examine flood victims from time to time at the shelter.
"For evacuation centres with more than 1,000 victims, we will open a static clinic which is open for 24 hours to cater to the needs of flood victims," he told reporters here today.
According to him, 682 Terengganu Health Department personnel would also be mobilised to flood evacuation centres throughout the state.
Members of the public could obtain the latest development in the state flood situation by contacting the State Disaster Operations Room at 09-6316021 or its website at etindakan.terengganu.gov.my.
