PUTRAJAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah today chaired the second Consultative Council on Foreign Policy (CCFP) meeting.

According to a statement from Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra), the meeting discussed on the draft Foreign Policy Framework entitled "Focus in Continuity: A Framework for Malaysia's Foreign Policy in a Post-Pandemic New Normal".

The Meeting agreed that in line with the Government's efforts to address the public interest, well-being and in order to address the immediate challenges, the Framework should emphasise and adopt new approaches on selected issues.

The approaches and issues are (i) revitalise Malaysia's links to the global economy; (ii) health diplomacy; (iii) digital economy; (iv) cybersecurity; (v) cultural diplomacy; (vi) peaceful coexistence; (vii) upholding multilateralism; and (viii) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"In addition, I have appointed two new CCFP members, namely, Mr. Anuar bin Ismail, Chief Government and Regulator Advisory, Corporate Strategic, PETRONAS, and Dr. Hoo Chiew Ping, Senior Lecturer in Strategic Studies and International Relations, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)," said Saifuddin who is also the chair of CCFP.

The appointment is based on their vast knowledge and experience in their respective fields and will greatly contribute towards the process of creating a pragmatic and sustainable foreign policy, to address current challenges.

The draft Foreign Policy Framework will be tabled at the Cabinet meeting and discussed at the Parliamentary Select Committee on International Affairs in Parliament.
