Food Flotilla for Myanmar: Only 25 volunteers allowed to disembark in Bangladesh

After a two-hour meeting with several representatives from the Bangladesh government representatives, only 25 volunteers of ‘Food Flotilla for Myanmar’ are allowed to disembark the vessel for a field visit to the Rohingyas camps in the country.

Head of mission, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said, the Bangladesh reps, however are grateful for the aids from Malaysia.

He also said that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) will supervise the aid distribution to be sent to Chittagong port.

“They (Bangladesh government representaties) have notified us that there have been several quarters who are out to restraint the good ties between Malaysia and Bangladesh, they are worried that in circumstances where volunteers are injured or killed, the ties will be strained,” said Abdul Azeez at a media conference here today.

He also explained that the mission has been successful due to the agreement with the Bangladesh counterparts in ensuring that all materials are safely delivered to the Rohingyas there.
