The government has not yet allowed the entry of foreign domestic helpers into the country, especially from high-risk countries infected with COVID-19.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said the government was still investigating the matter and was in the midst of considering it.
"We have not yet opened and allowed domestic helpers to return from high-risk countries. Many domestic helpers are from such countries and we have not allowed that.
"God willing, from time to time we will discuss as I mentioned before, a lot of relaxation given but it will be in stages," he said at a daily press conference here today.
Earlier, the Association of Foreign Domestic Helper Agencies of Malaysia (PAPA), the National Organization of Human Resources, the Association of Malaysian Private Service Agencies (PAPSMA) and the National Organization of Malaysian Employment Agencies (PIKAP) had urged the government to grant exemption to allow foreign workers to meet domestic demand.
