PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the ongoing developments in the Middle East, and is committed to ensuring the safety of all Malaysian citizens.
The ministry, in a statement on Tuesday, said Malaysia has continuously called for a ceasefire in Gaza, urging all parties to exercise utmost restraint and prevent the hostilities from expanding to the wider region.
The ministry said through its embassies that the Malaysian government is in close contact with registered Malaysian citizens and will swiftly extend consular assistance if necessary.
It said Malaysian citizens visiting or living in the Middle East region who have not yet registered with the nearest embassy of Malaysia are urged to do so immediately.
"This will enable the embassy to provide consular assistance when needed. A list of our embassies abroad can be found on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website at www.kln.gov.my," the statement said.
Malaysians residing in or travelling to the region are urged to remain vigilant and follow the latest updates issued by the relevant local authorities.
