Foreign Ministry's retreat to deliberate future direction of Malaysia's foreign policy
The outcome of the Retreat deliberations is hoped to assist the government in the formulation and implementation of strategies that will provide greater opportunity to strategically position Malaysia in the global spotlight.
PUTRAJAYA: The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) will convene a two-day Retreat starting today aimed to foster camaraderie and deliberate the future direction of Malaysia's foreign policy.
Themed 'Diplomacy in a Globalised World from the Lens of Malaysia MADANI,' the Retreat involving all heads of department and undersecretaries of the ministry, also invited the members of the Consultative Council on Foreign Policy (CCFP).
"The Retreat, which builds on the deliberations held during the 9th Heads of Mission Conference (HOMC9) on Sept 6 and 7, 2022, serves as a platform for Wisma Putra to evaluate the government's aspirations, policies and strategic interests in safeguarding the national interests," said Wisma Putra in a statement today.
The Retreat will include seven main sessions, each with guest speakers and experts, it said.
Among the topics that will be discussed include Future Direction of Malaysia's Foreign Policy; Future Direction of Wisma Putra; Proactive Economic Diplomacy as the Engine of Growth; and Fulfilling Malaysia's Global Disaster Relief Expectations.
Other topics are Sharing of Experience and Aspirations by Former Malaysian Ambassadors; Boosting the Potential of Malaysia's Soft Power; and Malaysia MADANI: Moulding International Narrative.
Following the aforementioned sessions, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is scheduled to conclude the Retreat by offering his ideas, summary and findings on pertinent issues deliberated throughout the two-day Retreat.
"It is envisaged that the outcome of the Retreat deliberations will assist the ministry and the government in the formulation and implementation of strategies that will provide greater opportunity to strategically position Malaysia in the global spotlight," said Wisma Putra.
