A Form Five student of a secondary school here is being investigated under the Sedition Act for his "Like" to the 'I Love Israel' page on Facebook, thus creating controversy at the school.
Seberang Perai South district police chief, ACP Shafien Mamat said police had so far recorded statements from five people, including the 17-year-old student yesterday.
"Today, we took statements from three of his friends, also aged 17, and a teacher to facilitate the investigation," he said when contacted, here, today.
Shafien said the student's action had drawn various comments including from the school teacher who expressed disappointment, as well as condemnation from his schoolmates and even a suggestion that the student involved be burned.
He said following this, the student who was afraid to go to school and was worried about his safety, lodged a report at the Tasik Mutiara police station and closed his Facebook account.
Shafien said the student claimed that he had accidently pressed the "Like" key.
He said the police investigation would be on two aspects, namely why the student supported the 'I Love Israel' page, hence creating conflict, and the threats that he had received over his action.
