Former acting IGP dies of lung infection

Former Deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamed Amin Osman died at the age of 89 due to pneumonia at Prince Court Medical Centre today.

He was admitted to the medical centre three days ago and died at 5.30am today, said former IGP Tun Hanif Omar when contacted by Bernama.

"I visited him at the medical centre yesterday, but he was unconscious then," said Hanif, who described Mohamed Amin as a man who was firm in discharging his duties.

"His deeds and sacrifices will always be remembered," he added.

Mohamed Amin was appointed Deputy IGP in January 1979 and retired from the police force as Acting IGP in December 1985.

He assumed the post as Acting IGP when Hanif, who was the then IGP, went to further his studies in law abroad in 1983.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy IGP, Mohamed Amin had held several posts in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), including Bukit Aman Special Branch director and Kuala Lumpur police chief.

Mohamed Amin left a wife, Puan Sri Che Puteh Rashid, and three children.

His remains would be taken to Bukit Aman Mosque for prayer and then buried at the Jalan Ampang Muslim cemetery before the Friday prayer today.
