Former Alor Limbat assemblyman shot dead
Alias was a two-term assemblyman for the Alor Limbat state constituency from 2004.
Former Alor Limbat assemblyman, Alias Abdullah, 51, was gunned down at his home in Marang after Friday prayers.
Marang district police chief, DSP Mohd Suhaimi Ali who confirmed the incident said, police were still investigating the incident.
Terengganu police chief, Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman also confirmed the incident and said police were investigating the motive behind the incident.
“Police are still investigating from various aspects and I have directed my staff to get the full report on the incident,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
In the 2pm incident, the victim who was in the kitchen, was said to have been approached by an unknown assailant on a motorcycle who fired a gunshot which hit his left cheek, according to a Bernama report.
He was then rushed to the Bukit Payung health clinic by his neighbour, Mohd Zuraini Mamat, where he was given emergency treatment at 2.15pm but succumbed to his injuries.
Alias was a two-term assemblyman for the Alor Limbat state constituency from 2004 before losing to PAS candidate, Ariffin Deraman during the 13th General Election.
His last political post was as Alor Limbat UMNO branch chief.
Before becoming the people’s representative, Alias was the Head of Terengganu’s state Prosecution Unit (Deputy Public Prosecutor/Senior Federal Counsel) from May 1, 1997 to Nov 18, 1999.
He leaves behind a wife and four children.
