Former Cub Prix champ leads pilgrimage convoy on 'kapcai' motorcycles

Malaysia Cub Prix former champ, Wazi Abdul Hamid and four others looked set to chart history in ‘Ride to Hajj’, a pilgrimage journey from Kuala Lumpur to Makkah using ‘kapcai’ motorcycles.
‘Ride to Hajj’ chairman, Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah today said, the programme is a testimony of patriotism among ‘mat motor’ and crucial to instil positive qualities such as discipline, determination, team work and courage, among the participants.
“We also want to show that made-in-Malaysia products such as Modenas GT128 have the capability to reach Makkah,” said Armand.
The expedition was flagged off by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in front of Menara Dato' Onn at Putra World Trade Centre here today.
Also present was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who is the patron for the expedition.
The Ride to Hajj expedition will also include experienced riders Meor Azhar Meor Raflan, 43, Napiah Mat Noor, 50, Othman Darus, 49, and Azman Baharuddin, 52.
The journey will see participants riding across several countries namely Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Each of them will be riding a 130cc Modenas GT128 Harimau Malaya Edition motorcycle sponsored by the national motorcycle brand Modenas.
Organised by Yayasan Kemajuan Usahawan Malaysia (YAKUM) under the auspices of UMNO Youth, the journey will take between 35 and 45 days to complete.
