The defamation suit filed by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim against the ex-chairman of Gerakan Rakyat Integriti dan Anti Korupsi (Gerak Malaysia), Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus, has been settled when the latter apologised to the Selangor Menteri Besar in the High Court here today.
Reading from a prepared text, written in Malay, Mohd Nazree apologised to Abdul Khalid over the press statements he made as Gerak Malaysia chairman on Jan 21, 2009 with the title "Corrupt Practises and Power Abuse by Selangor Menteri Besar" and on Feb 3, 2009, with the title "Report of Power Abuse by Selangor Menteri Besar".
"I deeply regret for having made the press statements, which were not true, against Tan Sri Datuk Abdul Khalid Ibrahim," he said and promised not to issue any more defamatory statements against Abdul Khalid in future.
The apology was recorded before judge Datuk Dr Badariah Sahamid.
Besides the apology, Mohd Nazree, represented by lawyer Nurul Atikah Chut Jais, also agreed to publish his apology in the Sinar Harian newspaper, within 14 days from today.
Abdul Khalid was represented by lawyer S. N. Nair.
