Former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak is in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital.
Azizan's press secretary, Mohamad Helmi Khalid, in his short messaging service (SMS), said Azizan's condition turned critical at 5.30am today and he was now placed in the coronary care unit (CCU) ward of the hospital.
Numerous blog sites had spread information that the former Kedah Menteri Besar had died.
It was learnt that Azizan, 73, was taken to the Penang Hospital from the Kedah Medical Centre (KMC) here last night.
Azizan, who is the Kedah PAS commissioner, had been receiving treatment at the KMC since Monday morning.
In the 13th general election on May 5, Azizan retained his Sungai Limau state seat by defeating his cousin, Fazillah Mohd Ali, who was the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, by a majority of 2,774 votes.
However, PAS lost the state administration when BN won 21 of the 36 state legislative assembly seats to form the Kedah state government with a simple majority.
