Former Kedah MB Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak laid to rest

Former Menteri Besar Kedah Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak was laid to rest at the Muasasah Darul Umum, Pokok Sena, Kedah Islamic cemetery at 5.30pm today.
His body arrived at the Muasasah at 4.20pm accompanied by traffic police as well as some 200 supporters from the PAS Pokok Sena, Langgar quarters.
About 1,000 people were present at the funeral, whereby burial rights were performed together by a few PAS and UMNO leaders.
Among those present were Menteri Besar Kedah Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, PAS deputy spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din and others.
Azizan Abdul Razak passed away this morning at around 11.15 am at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. He died after suffering from cardiac arrest yesterday.
His press secretary, Helmi Khalid confirmed the matter when contacted by Astro AWANI earlier.
Azizan's family members were at his bedside when he passed away at the hospital's intensive care unit, said the hospital's deputy medical director I Dr Norzaini Morad.
Meanwhile Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak offered his condolences to the family of former Kedah menteri besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak who died in Alor Setar today.
"Al-Fatihah. Condolences to the family of Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak on his demise. May his soul be blessed," the prime minister said in his Twitter post.
Azizan, 69, died at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar at 11.10am today after a long illness.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, on behalf of the government, Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN), extended his condolences to Azizan's family.
He described Azizan's demise as a loss to the country as the deceased had contributed to the country's development, especially Kedah during his tenure as menteri besar.
"On this score, we feel that his demise is a loss as a friend and a leader. Politics aside, we believe his demise is a loss to us as well," he told reporters after receiving Myanmar Parliament speaker Thura U Shwe Mann at his office at Parliament House here today.
Muhyiddin said he knew Azizan personally and had visited him at the hospital before.
He prayed for Azizan's soul to be gathered among the faithful.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also conveyed his condolences over Azizan's demise.
