Former Prime Minister's brother dies

Lt Gen Datuk Jaafar Onn, 81, the younger brother of former Prime Minister the late Tun Hussein Onn, passed away at his residence in Section 11, Shah Alam at about 7.45pm Tuesday.
According to a Defence Ministry media spokesman, Jaafar, who was also former Deputy Chief of the Army, will be buried at the Section 21 Shah Alam Muslim Cemetery after the midday (Zuhur) prayers on Wednesday.
Born on March 3, 1933, Jaafar leaves behind wife Datin Fatimah Wan Abdullah and two children.
Jaafar joined the military in 1952 and retired in 1983.
He received his early education at the Ngee Heng Malay School and Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Perak, before furthering his studies at the Officer Cadet School (OCS), Eaton Hall Cheshire, England (1953), the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), England (1955), the British Staff College, Camberly, England (1962) and the Royal College for Defence Studies (RCDS), England (1978).
