Former Raja Permaisuri Agong Siti Aishah Abdul Rahman has filed a creditor's petition against publisher Syed Hussein Alwee for failing to pay her a total of RM2,005,383.55 in damages as ordered by the Temerloh High Court.
The damages were to be paid by Syed Hussein to Siti Aishah for a breach of confidence and misuse of her private information in a lawsuit tried at the Temerloh High Court.
The Court had, on Oct 23, 2013, ordered Syed Hussein to pay RM1.5 million in general and exemplary damages as claimed by Siti Aishah.
However, in the bankruptcy notice filed by Siti Aishah, the total amount payable by Syed Hussein (RM2,005,383.55) consists of the damages (RM1,500,000), interest of eight per cent per annum (RM500,383.56) and costs (RM5,000).
Siti Aishah, 45, filed the petition through her lawyer T.Gunaseelan at the High Court here on Aug 25.
In her petition, Siti Aishah requested that the order of receipt and judgment was made in respect of the amount payable by Syed Hussein.
The petition stated that Syed Hussein had failed to comply with the instructions in the bankruptcy notice dated Jan 29, 2016, in which he was required to pay RM2,005,383.55 to Siti Aishah within seven days after the notice was served on him on April 12, 2016.
Speaking to reporters after the case was mentioned before Deputy Registrar Tania Arissa Andi Sanrang today, Gunaseelan said the court set Dec 20 to hear the petition. - BERNAMA
