A former Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) personnel was sentenced by the Sessions Court here yesterday to 10 years' jail for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Mohd Fezlee Md Tap had caused the death of his Indonesian maid, Rosniar Tanjung, 44, between August 2015 and April last year at the staff quarters in the Labuan RMAF Base in Membidai near here.
Sessions Court judge Abu Bakar Manat ordered Mohd Fezlee, 32, to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest last April 14.
According to the facts of the case, the autopsy revealed signs of physical abuse-based injuries on Rosniar's forehead, and bruises around the eyes and hands.
The court was told that the forensic pathologist found bruises on the deceased which could have been caused by long term abuse and torture.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris told Bernama that Mohd Fezlee was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carried a jail term of up to 30 years.
He said the 10-year jail term was meted out after taking into account the former RMAF personnel's plea of guilt.
Mohd Fezlee was originally charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. -- Bernama
