KUALA LUMPUR: Former Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) newscaster Kamaruddin Ahmad died at his house in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor, this morning. He was 78.

The news was confirmed by his son Kamarul Zaidi Kamaruddin, 53, when contacted by Bernama.

"My late father had been experiencing a loss of appetite lately which had caused him to lose weight.

"He had also complained of back and joint pain but I did not have the opportunity to visit him due to this pandemic," he told Bernama.

Kamaruddin was also reported to suffer from various diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes and prostatitis.

He was laid to rest at the Bukit Beruntung Muslim Cemetery this afternoon.

Kamaruddin was a popular RTM newscaster in the 1980s, who used to team up with the late Wan Chik Daud.
