Former Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Talib Jamal passed away while undergoing dialysis treatment at a clinic here today.
He was 65.
Pahang Police chief Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Ab Ghani confirmed that Talib, who had been residing in this district for the past four years, breathed his last at 1.30 pm.
"His remains were taken to the Kuantan District Police Headquarters' surau for funeral prayers before being laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Jalan Bukit Ubi here," he said when contacted tonight.
Talib, who was appointed as Sarawak Police Commissioner on March 1, 2004, retired in September 2007 and was conferred the Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang, which carries the title Datuk on Sept 7, 2007.
The holder of Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, joined the police force as a probationary inspector in 1970.
Among the posts he had held were Police Management Division deputy director in 1999 and Logistics (Finance/Supply/Procurement) deputy director in 1997. - BERNAMA
