Former Special Branch deputy director, Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador will be served with a show cause letter and ordered to explain the reason for releasing a statement to the media pertaining to his recent transfer.
Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said as a police officer, Abdul Hamid is bound by the rule of the police force and could not release statements to the media at random.
Khalid said, the show cause letter will give Abdul Hamid the opportunity to explain matters before any disciplinary action is taken.
“We are all normal human beings. I have met and discussed with him but I do not want to comment further about what we have talked about.
“But I believe he acted in such a way because he was frustrated over his duties,” he said to reporters after attending the National Warrior's Service Medal presentation ceremony at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here Thursday.
Khalid was commenting on Abdul Hamid’s action for making a media statement recently on several matters including his transfer to the Prime Minister’s Department.
Apart from that, he also informed that disciplinary action would be taken against Abdul Hamid for violating police rules.
“I also reminded him (Abdul Hamid) that he had violated police rules because we have rules on who can speak to the media.
“So we need to take disciplinary action against him.
“We will issue a show cause letter to him and he needs to provide an explanation and after that we will think about the punishment... not only on him, but also any other police officers who violates the rule and discipline,” said Khalid.
Meanwhile, Khalid also denied allegations by former Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan that there were ‘invisible hands’ which often intervene in police affairs.
He added, as a leader it was his responsibility to execute policies created by the government.
