Former UMNO and BN secretary dies due to lung complications

Former UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) executive secretary Datuk Yaakob Mohammad, 67, died early this morning at the Damansara KPJ Specialist Hospital here due to lung complications.
His son, Datuk Ahmad Fazley Yaakob who is a singer and motivational speaker, said Yaakob died at 2.02 am.
He is survived by his wife, Datin Umi Kalsom Abdul Latib, four children and seven grandchildren.
Yaakob was buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery here at about 10.30 am, after final funeral rites were performed at the Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Mosque, Bangsar.
Between 1991 and 1997, Yaakob was BN executive secretary, committee member of UMNO Alor Setar, head of the UMNO Alor Setar Welfare and Poverty Bureau, as well as UMNO executive secretary since 1988.
He was also BN executive secretary from 1991 until September 2009.
In 2002, Yaakob was appointed as senator.
Yaakob also held the posts of Assistant Secretary of the Public Services Commission; Director of Administration in the Public Services Department, and Director of Road Transport Department, Federal Territory.
