Kelantan police believe they have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate in Kelantan and Terengganu after arresting four men and seizing 60,200 methamphetamine pills worth RM1.5 million here on Dec 5.
State Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief DSP Mit a/l Emong said, they were nabbed at a tyre and sports rim shop in Jalan Cherang, Kampung Bayam, after 200 pills suspected to be methamphetamine were found under a pile of tyres.
He said after questioning the men, aged between 23 and 29, police inspected a Honda Jazz car parked in front of a rented house in Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, Kampung Lundang here, and found 30 packages wrapped in newspaper.
"The packages contained 60,000 pills suspected to be methamphetamine worth RM1.5 million.
"We also seized five vehicles of various makes worth RM200,000," he said, adding that the drugs were believed to be from a neighbouring country for the markets in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Mit believed the four were from the same gang from which five men and two women were detained on Dec 2.
He said the group was believed to have about 30 members, and that the rest of the gang members had been identified.
"To date, 11 members of the gang, two of them women, have been apprehended and drugs worth a total RM3 million seized from them," he said.
Mit said all the suspects were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
