Four-cornered contest set for Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election

HULU SELANGOR: The Kuala Kubu BAharu by-election is set to witness a four-cornered contest between Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Pang Sock Tao (Pakatan Harapan), Nyau Ke Xin (Independent), and Hafizah Zainudin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia).
This was confirmed by the Returning Officer for the by-election, Yuhanas Auree Kamaruddin, at the Nomination Center for the KKB by-election, located at the Hulu Selangor District Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex, at around 10:38 a.m. on Saturday.
"For the purpose of this election, early voting will take place on May 7, 2024, on Tuesday, while polling day will be on May 11, 2024, on Saturday," he added.
Earlier, the PH candidate was accompanied by senior leaders of the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, as well as several Cabinet Ministers.
Meanwhile, the PN candidate was accompanied by senior leaders of PN, including former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Selangor MB Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election was held following the passing of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.
In the August state elections last year, Kee Hiong defeated three challengers from by securing a majority of 4,119 votes.
The Election Commission (EC) has set polling day for the by-election on May 11, with early voting on May 7.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is the seventh by-election held after the 15th General Election in 2022.
The Election Commission previously stated that this by-election will see a total of 40,226 voters, consisting of 39,362 regular voters, 238 military personnel and spouses, and 625 police personnel, including one voter who is absent due to being overseas.
