Australian Broadcasting Corporation's (ABC) production, "Four Corners" confirmed the prime minister's stand regarding the donation that he received all this while.
The documentary, after a detailed investigation by various authorities, proved that the fund received by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was a donation from the royal family of Saudi Arabia.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement today said that the investigations, including forensic examination, have been conducted on each money transfer transaction.
"The Malaysian authorities have been sent to Saudi Arabia to examine the documents and to interview members of the royal family and officials who handled the donations," the PMO said on Wednesday.
According to a government spokesman, the leaked letter from Saudi Arabia showed that the donation was a gift to the premier for his efforts in promoting moderation in Islam.
It was also for his efforts in combating terrorism and extremism, as well as the introduction of the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) initiative.
"The content of the letter clearly stated that the donation can be used by the Prime Minister in any way he feels appropriate, and it can be transferred directly or through a wholly-owned company by the donor, without expecting any benefit in return," the statement said.
The ABC channel on Monday broadcast the " Four Corners" program which tells the story of a purported financial scandal involving the Prime Minister.
The documentary, titled "State of Fear: Murder and Money in Malaysia" has tried to link the murder of several individuals with 1MDB probe and the prime minister.
On March 12, Four Corners' journalist Linton Joshua Besser, 39, and cameraman Eroglu Levent, 51, were arrested for security breach during Najib's visit to Kuching, Sarawak and later deported to their country of origin.
