Four temporary evacuation centres housing 56 victims were opened in Segamat today following the rising water levels at Sungai Segamat and Sungai Buloh Kasap here.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the four relief centres were located at the Kampung Melayu Raya community hall, Pogoh Tengah community hall, Sekolah Agama Mukim Jabi, and the Batu Badak community hall.
"The affected areas were Kampung Melayu Raya, Kampung Pogoh Tengah, Kampung Jabi and Kampung Seberang Batu Badak. The floods were caused by heavy rain which began last night and lasted today's afternoon.
"Most of the victims were evacuated since late last night," he said when contacted here.
Among the agencies involved in evacuating the victims were the Civil Defence Forces (APM) and the Social Welfare Department. -- BERNAMA
