Four family members jailed, 24 whipping each for rape of teenage relative

Judge Marutin Pagan handed down the jail sentences on the four accused - comprising the victim's grandfather, father and two uncles, aged 26 and 28 - after they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Marutin sentenced the grandfather, aged 57, who was charged with six counts of raping the girl, to 25 years' jail on each count, and 24 strokes of the cane, while the father, aged 42, to a total of 50 years jail and 24 whipping on two counts of raping her.

One of the uncles was sentenced to 25 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane on one count of raping the girl, while the other uncle was sentenced to a total of 55 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane for raping the girl and also her younger sister. He was sentenced to 19 years' jail for raping the girl, and 30 years' jail for raping the victim's younger sister.

They were all ordered to to serve the jail sentences concurrently from the date of their arrest.

The four men were arrested at their house in Serian last Aug 11 after police received a report on the 19 year-old girl being raped since six years ago.

The heinous act of the four men was exposed after a medical check-up on the girl found that she was 25 weeks pregnant.

They were charged under Section 376B(1) of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years and whipping, if found guilty.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Azhari Yusof , while all the accused were unrepresented.
