Four indonesian women locked up by couple rescued by police

Police rescued four Indonesian women who were believed to be victims of human trafficking at Taman Mulia, Bakar Arang, near here, early today.

Kuala Muda District Police chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said a raid was carried out after a police report was lodged by the brother-in-law of one of the victims at 4pm yesterday.

"The man told police that his sister-in-law, 26, and three other relatives, aged 19, 24 and 35 years, from Indonesia were locked up in a house in Taman Mulia by a husband and wife couple who acted as agents for foreign workers.

"He claimed that the agents wanted RM4,500 each for the release of the four. Subsequently, a raid was carried out and the man, 54, a local, and his Indonesian wife, 47, with permanent resident status, were detained.

"The victims were found locked up in a room at the back portion of the house," he told Bernama, here, today.
