Four Malaysians arrested over Daish involvement
Those who were arrested were Malaysian citizens between the ages of 23 to 28 years old.
A married couple were among four individuals arrested by police during a special operation in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur between Jan 11 to Jan 15, on suspicion of being involved in terrorism activities and Daish militants.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in a statement on Saturday, said three of the suspects were caught by the authorities in Turkey while they were on their way to Syria.
Another suspect, arrested in Setiawangsa LRT, was believed to be planning an attack in Malaysia.
According to Khalid, those who were arrested were Malaysian citizens between the ages of 23 to 28 years old.
“Two of them were a married couple from Perak while the other two, an engineer and an insurance agent, from Terengganu.
“The three suspects were detained in Gaziantep, Turkey on November 15, by the local authorities there. The suspects were sneaking into Syria to join the Daish group.
“They were sent back to Malaysia on January 11 and detained the moment they landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. They were recruited by Muhammad Wanndy who was also responsible for arranging their travel into Syria,” he said.
He said Muhammad Wanndy had recruited the suspects through Facebook and online instant messengers.
