Four million Rela members by 2013

The People's Volunteer Corps or Rela targets to increase its members to four million next year.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Richard Riot said Rela currently had more than three million members (3,003,748) nationwide.

"Rela is confident of reaching the target next year. Moreover, the new Rela Act has been passed which, through a paradigm shift, will make its role and functions more progressive," he said at the Sarawak-level Rela rebranding event, yesterday.

Riot said of the over three million Rela members, 2,109,235 were aged below 40.

"This shows that younger people now are more aware of Rela's role and keen to contribute to maintaining order and protecting national security," he said.
