AZMIN: The free market concept aims to fulfill each other's needs in the community.
Vegetables weighing 708kg were among the daily necessities provided free of charge to the public at #FreeMarketPutrajaya held today at Dataran Gemilang, Precinct 4, Putrajaya.
Programme organiser Azmin Ishak said the vegetables contributed by various individuals and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) were among the items given out at the 120 stalls involved in the programme.
"This is the highest participation we have received since we started organising the market over a year ago, and more than 2,000 visitors came to the programme today...this has exceeded our expectations," he told Bernama here today.
He said the free market concept, which had also been adopted by others, aimed to fulfill each other's needs in the community.
Azmin said last year alone, about 70 free market programmes had been organised nationwide by him and his friends, as well as other individuals.
A contributor, Nur Liza Hud, 34, said she and five other family members joined #FreeMarketPutrajaya after finding out about it on social media.
"We are giving away baju kurung which can still be worn, baby strollers and meehoon goreng to visitors at the square," she said, adding it was the first time her family got involved in such a charity event.
She said it was appropriate for such programmes to be held in the federal administrative territory, as not all civil servants were well to do and would appreciate the gesture.
