Furniture store goes up in smoke

A furniture store in Kampung Changkat Dain, Sungai Bakap near was razed to the ground in a dawn fire causing losses estimated at over RM1 mill.

However, no casualties were reported in the 4.15am incident.

Sungai Bakap fire and rescue chief Noor Asfariza Mohd Abdul Kadir said firemen put out the blaze by 5.30am.

The store owner, Lau Guek Koon, 40, said she was sleeping at his home located in front of the store when his son Chuah Huey Weu, 20, who had got up to go to the bathroom, alerted him on the fire.

She said her husband was away in Kelantan on business matters and though the losses were huge, was happy that no one was hurt in the incident.
