A-G withdraws sedition charge against Teresa Kok

The Attorney-General's Chambers Friday withdrew its charge against DAP vice-president Teresa Kok Suh Sim who was charged under the Sedition Act 1948 over a video clip aired in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.
The matter was announced by deputy public prosecutor Hamdan Hamzah when the case was mentioned before Judge Nor Sharidah Awang at the Sessions Court here.
However, no reason was given by the prosecution on the matter.
When met, counsel S. N. Nair representing Kok said his team attended court Friday to obtain another date for hearing.
However, the counsel was shocked with the development of the case, he said.
On May 6 last year, Kok who is Seputeh MP pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here over a charge of producing a seditious video clip entitled, 'Teresa Kok ONEderful Malaysia CNY 2014, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year in February last year.
The act was allegedly made at 90-02-07 Apartmen Putra Ria, Jalan Bangsar here about 9am on Feb 1, 2014 and was aired on Youtube site at http://www.youtube.com/.
The charge was made under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act and was punishable under Section 4 (1) of the same act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term of up to three years or both for the first offence.
