Gardenia's act of kindness for flood victims
A small act of kindness goes a long way.
For flood victims stranded by the roadside in the East Coast, this act of kindness came in the form of bread.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said has expressed his gratitude to Gardenia Bakeries (KL) after the company refused payment for the packs of bread it had distributed to flood victims recently.
The breadmaker said, the two lorries of bread it had handed out to victims affected by the floods in Chendor, Pahang was its social responsibility to Malaysians in need.
“I would like to thank Gardenia for their contributions for the flood victims. The driver had initially refused to open the lorry for fear of going against company regulations. He only complied when I had spoken to the company’s manager and agreed to pay for the bread.
“When I wrote to the management asking for an invoice, the company said the bread distributed was the company’s contribution for the stranded victims and refused payment. As such, I would like to thank Gardenia for the gesture,” he said.
Earlier this week, flood victims including the two Gardenia lorries were left stranded at the roadside when the Kemaman-Kuantan road in Chendor was closed to traffic after it was inundated by flood waters.
The incident had since gone viral on social media sites and garnered much praise from the public.
