KUALA LUMPUR: After defending the Gua Musang parliamentary seat for 12 terms, UMNO veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah lost to his rival Mohd. Azizi Abu Naim from Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Mohd. Azizi obtained 21,826 votes to win with a majority of 163 votes. Tengku Razaleigh or better known as 'Ku Li' polled 21,663 votes.
Two other candidates, Asharun Uji (Pakatan Harapan) managed 4,517 votes while Datuk Dr Samsu Adabi Mamat (Gerakan Tanah Air) got 371 votes.
Tengku Razaleigh, 85, is the longest-serving representative in the country, serving 12 terms at the parliamentary and state levels.
In GE15, he tried to defend the seat which he first won unopposed in 1974, then known as Ulu Kelantan.
In GE14, Ku Li maintained his dominance in the parliamentary seat involved after winning with a majority of 3,913 votes in a three-cornered contest with Pas and PKR candidates.
