BELURAN: Bersatu vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin have retained the Beluran and Kinabatangan parliamentary seats respectively in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Beluran returning officer Roger Appolonius announced that Ronald - who has held the parliamentary seat for five terms and ran under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket this time - defeated BN candidate Benedict Asmat with a majority of 1,594 votes.
"I will continue to serve all the communities, including those who did not support me this time. Of course, I will continue to speed up the process of making changes so that the problems faced by the people of Beluran will receive close attention from the government," said Ronald when met by reporters here, today.
In the five-cornered contest, Ronald, the only PN candidate in Sabah in GE15, obtained 11,303 votes, while Benedict got 9,709; Felix Joseph Saang of Pakatan Harapan (4,460); Rowiena Rasid of Warisan (3,707), and Hausing Samsudin @Sudin representing Pejuang (155).
In KINABATANGAN, Bung Moktar, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, retained the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat with a majority of 4,330 votes, defeating Warisan candidate Mazliwati Abdul Malek.
In the one-on-one contest, Bung Moktar got 16,842 votes, while Mazliwati got 12,512.
The official results were announced by Kinabatangan returning officer Abd Manap Abd Ruhim at Dewan Sri Lamag.
With the victory, Bung Moktar has held on to the seat for six terms since first being elected as a member of Parliament in 1999.
