Pakatan Rakyat should not exploit Selangor citizens to capture Putrajaya, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Pakatan Rakyat should not exploit Selangor citizens to capture Putrajaya, said Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Abdul Khalid said in order to use Selangor to capture Putrajaya, mandate from the rakyat is needed first, he told Selangorkini in an exclusive interview.
The political crisis in Selangor started a few months after the 13th General Election when a few PKR leaders started criticising Abdul Khalid’s administration.
Although Abdul Khalid was praised for his excellent administration in the past, some party leaders including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, felt that Selangor needs a Menteri Besar who is able to boost the state further.
In order to replace Abdul Khalid, PKR arranged ‘the Kajang move’ which required former assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh to resign from his post.
Following that, Anwar was named as the PKR candidate at first so that he can replace Abdul Khalid
PKR’s strategic director Rafizi Ramli had said naming Anwar as the candidate is a radical strategy to capture Putrajaya.
He had admitted that it is not a popular move, but it is essential to strengthen Selangor.
Later, this move met with a dead end when Anwar was sentenced to five years’ jail after the Court of Appeal overturned his previous sodomy acquittal, ruling that the trial judge erred in rejecting DNA evidence adduced.
PKR then named Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the candidate for Kajang.
After Wan Azizah won the by-election, bigger efforts to replace Abdul Khalid was made.
PKR then named Wan Azizah as the possible candidate to replace Abdul Khalid.
Even though pressure is mounting to make Abdul Khalid leave, he had stressed that he will be the Selangor Menteri Besar until the end of his term.
Abdul Khalid's stand was supported by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and former PAS president Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.
