Gobalakrishnan remanded 4 days over Twitter allegation
In a tweet on Feb 6, Gobalakrishnan was said to have written: "Some Penang Indian police officers are strongly backing 04 gang which deals in drugs".
Former Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations into his tweet accusing policemen in Penang of protecting Gang 04 secret society members in drug-related activities.
Northeast district police acting chief Supt Abdul Rahman Ahmad said the police hoped to wrap up investigations into the 55-year-old former PKR MP soon.
"The probe will be conducted under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal threat, and Section 504 of the Penal Code with intent to deliberately disrupt peace," he said when contacted by Bernama here Tuesday.
He said at present, police had received a report from an NGO on the suspect's tweet.
Gobalakrishnan was arrested at his house in Kulim, Kedah at 3.30pm Monday when he refused to turn up at the northeast district police headquarters to have his statement recorded over the alleged tweet.
