GOF seizes fake branded goods worth over RM200,000

PASIR MAS: Police seized various counterfeit branded items including apparel, slippers, and bags worth more than RM200,000 after detaining two men and the lorry they were travelling in at the Tasek Raja Market, here yesterday.

The 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF7) commanding officer Supt Azhari Nusi said the team on duty spotted the two men, aged 29 and 35, who were the lorry driver and his assistant, as well as a white Isuzu lorry, at 7.30 pm.

"The inspection carried out by the police on the vehicle found a total of 3,181 pieces of counterfeit branded apparel worth RM191,860; 250 pairs of slippers worth RM15,000 and seven bags worth RM1,750 in the back of the lorry, with a total value of the seizure amounting to RM208,610," he said in a statement, today.

Also seized was an Isuzu lorry worth RM70,000 which was used to transport the goods, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM278,610, he said.

Azhari said all the goods were believed to have been smuggled into the country through illegal bases on the Malaysia-Thai border, to be distributed in several locations around Kota Bharu to meet the high demand during the Aidilfitri celebration.

"The suspects admitted to receiving a monthly salary of RM1,800 as well as a commission depending on the number of deliveries made.

"The suspects and seizures were taken to the Jeram Perdah police station for further action under the Trademark Act 2019," he said.
