VW upgrades the e-Golf with autonomous parking and charging.

Volkswagen AG is looking to become the leading manufacturer of automated parking. They’ve done it with the Audi A7 a number of years ago, now the company is continuing their efforts with the ever-popular Golf, or more specifically, the electric Golf (e-Golf).
The e-Golf is different from all the other automated parking to date, the system is known as the V-Charge short for valet-charge. Just like the A7, the e-Golf is also controlled via a smartphone app and with the help of sensors and cameras, the e-Golf finds itself a parking space of its own via sensors and cameras installed on the car. But the e-Golf doesn’t just parks itself, it also sends itself to the charging bay when you order it to.
As the electric vehicle nears its destination, the system recognises via local sensors whether the allocated parking space is taken. If it is empty, the fully automatic parking manoeuvre begins and positions the vehicle exactly above the inductive charging spot. When the charging process is complete, the vehicle automatically moves to another parking space, leaving the charging station free for another electric car.
VW is delighted to preview the V-Charge system and together with their partners, they will continue to improve the new technology and bring it to their customers.
