The government has allocated RM314.4 million for the implementation of development programmes and projects under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) in Sarikei, Sarawak, said the Prime Minister's Department (JPM).
JPM, in a written reply, told the Dewan Rakyat that the provision given to the Sarikei parliamentary constituency was not reduced even after the 2013 general election.
"In 2014, the budget approved had exceeded the allocation given in 2013, totalling RM10.7 million," said the ministry.
The ministry was replying to Wong Ling Biu (DAP-Sarikei) on the total allocations to the Sarikei parliamentary constituency for the last five years and whether the provision was reduced since Barisan Nasional lost the seat in the last general election.
JPM explained that the development allocations were made based on the needs of the people in the area concerned.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry disclosed that RM88 million was allocated last year for the implementation of various repair works of educational institution premises in Sarawak.
As of February this year, RM4.3 million was allocated for that purpose.
"To improve the quality of implementation and monitoring of projects, the ministry delegates the Sarawak state Education Department to act as the enforcement officer for infrastructure development projects worth RM5 million and below," said the ministry.
The ministry was replying to Michael Teo Yu Keng (PKR-Miri) on measures to deal with the problem of maintenance and infrastructure repair management of several schools in Sarawak as reported in the the Auditor General's Report 2014.
